In a readers' theatre setting, Once Upon a Crime: The Trial of Goldilocks recontextualizes familiar fairy-tale characters: Goldilocks, the Bears, the Wolf, Hansel, and Gretel by placing them in a courtroom where their stories are questioned, reframed, and contradicted. Through shifting testimonies, the play exposes how even the most well-known narratives can change depending on who is telling them, allowing performers to explore character through voice, perspective, and playful subversion. With minimal staging and an ensemble-driven approach, the play invites audiences to reconsider the “truth” behind the stories they thought they knew.
